In June 2011 I started a collaboration with author Neil Hanson to write a musical for the school. The brief was to have a good storyline, a nice mix of styles for the pupils to perform, plenty of people singing, good chorus parts, interesting orchestral parts that are differentiated in grade to include all year groups.
Neil contacted Sir Terry Pratchett about using his book and he was very happy to permit the adaptation and the three performances.
The resulting musical will be performed at the King's Hall Ilkley on Tuesday 28th, Wednesday 29th Feb and Thursday 1st March this year.
The King's Hall has a much bigger capacity than our school hall and we will be hoping to really fill the place.
Given the fact that we have a world premiere, possibly the only ever performances of this work, and a great show in store, I would urge everyone to come along and support the venture.
Tickets can be purchased through Ilkley Grammar School, The King's Hall, Grove Bookshop, and Ilkley Tourist Office.
Some of my colleagues have already recorded the orchestral parts to help the pupils learn the show and the reaction to that session was favourable, so do come along!!
