NSWO 3rd Feb 2007 Concert
The Nottingham Symphonic Winds concert in Long Eaton was well attended, in fact, a sell-out. This is a very good situation for a wind orchestra and is a reflection of the esteem in which the local public hold this group.
The music was chosen from the very best arrangements and transcriptions of film and stage music for winds. The challenges were met in many ways by all sections, with the Dukas, and the John Williams causing particular problems both technically and musically.
For the most part the group responded well, proving that the progress made last year is ongoing. They played with commitment and passion with an element of control and the audience loved it.
There were still incidents where lack of concentration caused silly mistakes and it would be really nice to do a whole concert where no one comes in during the rest before the last note!! Intonation suffered slightly when the room temperature rose drastically in the first half but really, this ensemble is showing musical experience and skill these days and I am very proud to appear with them in concert.
